SEPT 24 – 4-7 PM
at Happy Street Bru-Werks in Mount Vernon

This past July more than 45 beer makers joined Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose in a campaign to “Raise a Glass to Democracy.”

“It is widely thought that many of the ideas for the American Revolution began in pubs with people getting together and talking about how they didn’t want to be under the oppression of the monarch anymore. The idea of democracy going together with beer drinking is very compatible,” said LaRose. “You can have your opinion, state you opinion, you can share it on social media, or you can go to public demonstrations, but unless you register and vote you are missing an important part of the civic process.”

The voter registration deadline is October 5th.  If you will be 18 by November 3rd, you can register to vote.  You also need to update your voter registration if you’ve changed your name or address since last voting, registering or signing an elections petition.

If you have not voted, updated, signed an elections petition or returned a card from the Board of Elections in the past six years, you may have been purged from the rolls. In which case, you need to register again.

Happy Street Bru-Werks and Local Smoke BBQ are hosting a voter registration “Raise a Glass to Democracy event this Thursday, September 24th from 4-7 PM.  The brewery and BBQ are located at 209 South Gay Street in Mount Vernon, one block off of South Main Street, next to COTC and surrounded by public parking lots.

Happy Street Bru-Werks, licensed in 2017, is a local micro-brewery with 11 beers, brewed onsite from fresh grain. The brewery shares an outdoor patio with Local Smoke BBQ, which features slow cooked pork, brisket and smoked chicken wings with scratch seasonal sides.

Partnering with local craft breweries, an important representation of Ohio small business, not only expands voter registration outreach and updating current registration information, it also helps brewery owners and employees weather the current COVID storm that many small businesses are facing.

Jennifer Farmer, co-owner of Happy Street Bru-Werks added, “We are passionate about our craft.  Join us in raising a glass to Democracy. Cheers!”
