Dear friends,

The busy election season has begun. Let’s get the best candidates nominated in the Democratic Party primary election so we can win in November! Below are details on the election and information about some important events.

Upcoming Events

All three Democratic Party candidates (Jerrad Christian, Daniel Crawford, and Jason Reynard) have been invited and are expected. Location is West Church Social, 650 W Church St., Newark. Primary Election Voting Details

Visit the Elections page on our website for the full list of candidates and levies on the ballot in Knox County in the May primary. Key dates relating to the election are listed below:

  • Early In-Person Voting: Early in-person voting began last week, on April 7, and will continue through the weekend prior to Election Day. This schedule shows the dates and times the Board of Elections at 104 East Sugar Street in Mount Vernon is open for early voting.
  • Absentee Ballots: If you plan to vote by mail, I hope you have already received your absentee ballot. Please complete it and put it in the mail now!  Absentee (mail-in) ballots must be received at the Board of Elections by 7:30 pm on May 5. This is a new requirement.  Absentee ballots cannot be accepted at your local polling location. The deadlines for mail-in voting are very tight, and mail delivery cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, if you have not yet requested your absentee ballot, you may want to consider in-person early voting at the Board of Elections instead (see first bullet above).
  • Election Day: Polls will be open on May 5 from 6:30 am to 7:30 pm. Be sure to bring a valid form of identification with you to your Election Day polling location. If you are unsure of your polling location, find by searching your voter registration record here and then clicking the blue Voter Details button. Note that some polling locations have recently changed.

I also want to make sure you know that we have a Democratic Party write-in candidate for County Commissioner, Chuck Rogers. To vote for Chuck Rogers, please fill in the oval next to “Write-In” and then write the name Chuck Rogers. Chuck Rogers is endorsed by the Knox County Democratic Party. For more information about Chuck, follow this link.

There are some contested races on the ballot, so it is important that you vote!  The Ohio Democratic Party has endorsed Sherrod Brown for U.S. Senator, Amy Acton for Ohio Governor, and John Kulewicz for Ohio Attorney General. For more information about the full Democratic Party slate, click here for the Elections page on our website.

Help Needed

I’m looking for some help in the office.  We’d like to keep the office open more than just two days a week.  If you like talking with voters and have the time to take office duty one or two days a week, please email me at kathytate@knoxcountydems.org or call 925-381-5849.

I’m also looking for some help with fundraising. If you have experience and creative ideas for raising funds, I’d love to hear from you at the email address or phone number above.

And, speaking of fundraising, please consider donating now to the Knox County Democratic Party!  As you might imagine, we have many needs during election season – everything from postage for mailings, to office rent and utilities, to donations to Democratic Party candidates.  And this year we plan to hire two college students to help us over the summer.  Any donation – big or small – is really helpful.

You can donate online via ActBlue or by sending a check payable to Knox County Democratic Party to P.O. Box 766, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050.  Thank you for your help!

Best regards,

Kathy Tate, Chair
