March 2026 Newsletter

Dear friends,

Looking forward to flipping some seats blue in November? We sure are! And, as we head toward the primary election, we are hosting a couple of important events with candidates, so that you can be an informed voter:

  • Tuesday, March 24, approximately 8:00 pm: Ohio attorney general candidate John Kulewicz will join our monthly Executive Committee meeting. The Ohio attorney general is the state’s chief legal officer, with responsibilities including protecting consumers, enforcing antitrust laws, and ensuring open government.  All Dems are welcome to any of our monthly meetings, and this one will be no different.  The meeting starts at 7:00 pm, but John Kulewicz will arrive around 8:00 pm. The meeting will be in “hybrid” format – a combination of Zoom and in person in our office.  If you’d like to join any of our monthly meetings, including this one, email info@knoxcountydems.org.

  • Wednesday, March 25, 7:00 pm: We will hear from Bryan Hambley, candidate for Ohio secretary of state in a special Zoom-only meeting. The Ohio secretary of state has responsibilities including supervising the administration of election laws, reviewing statewide initiative and referendum petitions, and chairing the Ohio Ballot Board, which approves ballot language for statewide issues. This is an especially important role in efforts to end gerrymandering.  If you’d like to join us, please email info@knoxcountydems.org to receive the Zoom link.

Both of the candidates listed above are in competitive primary races. The Knox Democratic Party has a policy of not endorsing anyone for the primary, but we heard from the two other candidates in these races in recent months, and we’d like to give all Democratic voters an opportunity to hear from these two.

No Kings III

Please make a point to attend the No Kings protest on the Mount Vernon Public Square on March 28.  Signs on the Square will support the No Kings theme starting at 1:00 pm, and then Knox County Indivisible will host the rally 1:30 – 2:30 pm.  Goals of the peaceful protests are to make our opinions known to the community – with joy, music, and maybe even a little silliness. (Some protesters may wear Easter Bunny ears since the merchant egg hunt will be happening in the downtown stores at the same time.)  Details and registration are here.

Open House

After No Kings, starting at 2:30 pm on March 28, we’ll have an Open House in our Democratic Party office at 9 E Vine Street to show off our new paint job and improved decor. Stop by to chat about candidates in the primary, check your voter registration, and have a snack.

Primary Election Voting Details

We have posted a lot of information on the Elections page on our website, and recommend that page and the Knox County Board of Elections website as ongoing references, because both will continue to be updated as necessary as we get closer to the election. Some of the key dates are included below:

  • Voter Registration Deadline: The last day to register to vote or update your registration in advance of the primary election is April 6. To check your registration, use this search tool on the Knox County Board of Elections website.

  • Early In-Person Voting: Early in-person voting, which begins on April 7, allows you to cast your ballot ahead of Election Day at the Knox County Board of Elections office at 104 East Sugar Street in Mount Vernon. See the full schedule on the Board of Elections website.

  • Absentee Ballot Requests: If you have not done so already, request a mail-in (absentee) ballot as soon as possible by completing this form and mailing it (or, even better, bringing it) to the Board of Elections at 104 E Sugar Street, Mount Vernon 43050.  When you receive your ballot, complete and return it right away.  Mail-in ballots must be received at the Board of Elections by 7:30 pm on May 5. This is a new requirement.

  • Election Day: Polls will be open on May 5 from 6:30 am to 7:30 pm. Be sure to bring a valid form of identification with you to your Election Day polling location, which you can find by searching your voter registration record here and then clicking the blue Voter Details button. Note that, unfortunately, some polling locations have recently changed.

We hope to see you soon, at No Kings, at our office, or in either of the Zoom meetings mentioned at the start of this email.

All my best,

Kathy Tate, Chair

Knox County Democratic Party

P.S. Thank you, all who attended our dinner last month. We had over 100 attendees, and six great candidate speakers in person, and two candidates via video. Photos can be seen here on our website.
